Updated: Though Apple offered no official comment, it has removed the Stan app that was visible on the Apple TV content page this morning. The inclusion of the Stan app appears to be a mistake, though it does suggest that the Australian streaming service has an Apple TV app in the pipeline.
Following on from the launch of TenPlay and Fox Sports Plus apps, the Apple TV [almost] had its biggest local streaming service arrive on the platform – as of today Stan is [not] available on the Apple TV.
The Apple TV service launch [will be] the first direct to TV-based access point for the startup streaming service from Fairfax and Channel Nine.
While subscribers could always stream Stan content to the TV via a Chromecast or Apple TV using Airplay, having a native Apple TV app means a much simpler navigation and control option, which should help the service grow its market share.
A second bite of the Apple?
Interestingly, the announcement of the app's arrival on Apple's hobby box has come entirely from the fruit-named company, with Stan appearing as a streaming option on the Apple TV content page.
Stan's own website is yet to update with information about accessing the service via Apple TV, though, instead still stating you need to use Airplay from a compatible mobile device.
Regardless of the announcement strategy though, this [will be] good news for consumers, offering another way to stream the newest content directly to their television.
